Taster Course

BSL ‘Taster’ Course

The ‘full’ Level 1 qualification consists of three units. For more information, please select the ‘Level 1 Course’ tab in the main menu. Our ‘taster’ course is designed to cover only the first of the units (BSL101). This may be studied separately as a short introductory course, and upon successful completion of the (optional) assessment, students can request a certificate just for this.

BSL101 – Introduction to BSL
– Meeting & Greeting
– Fingerspelling & Introductions
– Transport & Travel
– Time & Numbers
– Weather & Directions
– Seeking Clarification

Unlike the ‘full’ Level 1 courses which usually commence in September, our ‘taster’ courses are delivered via a network of community partnerships with schools and other local venues, and take place on a rolling basis throughout the year. We are also able to deliver courses ‘in-house’ for local businesses and organisations. Please contact us if you would like further details.

Each ‘taster’ course is normally taught over a six week period, and usually coincides with an academic half term. Some students wish to continue their studies however, and also go on to complete units BSL102 and BSL103 (the remainder of the full Level 1 qualification).

‘Taster’ courses include a selection of material from all three units of the full Level 1 course, and students who complete the rest of the qualification often notice that a few elements overlap. This is a great opportunity for revision! If you have already successfully completed a BSL101 assessment as part of our ‘taster’ course, you will NOT need to re-enrol, pay for, or repeat this.
